# Save The Vaquita Week > Save The Vaquita Week is a yearly week of livestreams on Twitch and YouTube for the vaquita, a critically endangered porpoise that lives only in the northern Gulf of California, Mexico. Streamers keep doing what they usually do on their own channels and tell their viewers about the vaquita while they stream. Vaquitas drown in gillnets set illegally for totoaba, a large fish caught in the same waters. The 2025 survey saw 7 to 10 different vaquitas in a small search area. That figure is a minimum count, and the last estimate of the whole population was made for 2018. Save The Vaquita Week is organized by Kasey Snow, an artist and streamer who started it in 2025, with support from volunteers at the Porpoise Conservation Society (Porpoise.org) and the BC Marine Mammal Rescue Society. Porpoise.org receives everything donated during the event. Channels of any size can take part. Each streamer picks a time during the event week, streams what they normally stream and talks about the vaquita along the way, so the lineup mixes art, gaming, music, crafts and science. Nothing is restreamed on this site. To watch, open the schedule, pick a session and follow its link to the streamer's own channel. The 2026 event week runs Sunday 11 – Saturday 17 October 2026, in Pacific Time (America/Vancouver). Anyone can become a supporter and get about six emails a year. Streamer and ambassador sign-ups are closed for this year. ## The event and the vaquita - [About Save The Vaquita Week](https://vaquita.mx/save-the-vaquita-week.md): how the event started, who runs it and how to watch, donate or help - [The vaquita](https://vaquita.mx/the-vaquita.md): the porpoise, why it is disappearing and what is being done - [Schedule](https://vaquita.mx/schedule.md): every published session this year, day by day, with times in the event's zone and UTC and links to each channel - [Streamers](https://vaquita.mx/streamers.md): this year's streamers, each linking to a profile with their channels and sessions - [Take part](https://vaquita.mx/take-part.md): how to become a supporter, stream a session or help in a chat, with the participation rules and code of conduct - [Be an ambassador](https://vaquita.mx/ambassadors.md): what chat ambassadors do - [Donate](https://vaquita.mx/donate.md): where donations go and how to give - [Take action](https://vaquita.mx/act.md): petitions and letters that are open now ## News - [All news](https://vaquita.mx/news.md): every published update, newest first - [The Colorado River’s water deal for its delta ends this year](https://vaquita.mx/news/colorado-river-delta-water-deal-ends.md): published 2026-06-15 - [Following the totoaba trade, from Samarkand to Hong Kong](https://vaquita.mx/news/following-the-totoaba-trade.md): published 2026-06-10 - [Mexico plans to shrink the gillnet-free zone, and the new rules are still unpublished](https://vaquita.mx/news/mexico-plans-to-shrink-the-gillnet-free-zone.md): published 2026-02-06 - [The 2025 survey found 7 to 10 vaquitas, and at least one calf](https://vaquita.mx/news/2025-survey-7-to-10-vaquitas.md): published 2025-10-28 ## Archive - [Archive](https://vaquita.mx/archive.md): every past event week - [Save The Vaquita Week 2025](https://vaquita.mx/archive/2025.md): the schedule as it ran, Sunday 2 – Saturday 8 November 2025 ## Optional - [Contact](https://vaquita.mx/contact.md): who to email, and answers to common questions - [Privacy policy](https://vaquita.mx/privacy.md): what the site collects and why - [Terms](https://vaquita.mx/terms.md): terms of use - [Schedule as JSON](https://vaquita.mx/api/v1/schedule): the current event and its published sessions, for overlays and tools - [Streamers as JSON](https://vaquita.mx/api/v1/streamers): this year's streamers - [Schedule as a calendar](https://vaquita.mx/schedule.ics): an iCalendar feed of every published session - [Sitemap](https://vaquita.mx/sitemap.xml): every public page
