Ask Mexico’s environment and fisheries agencies to clear gillnets from the Upper Gulf of California, enforce the ban, and help fishing communities earn a living without them.

The vaquita lives only in the Upper Gulf of California, and gillnets set illegally for totoaba are what is killing it. This petition on Change.org asks four Mexican government agencies to act before the species is gone.

It asks them to:

  • remove active and abandoned gillnets from the Gulf
  • enforce the existing gillnet ban and prosecute the people who break it
  • give local fishing communities other ways to earn a living
