Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it and how to have it deleted.
The short version
- We collect what the event needs to run and nothing else.
- Nothing is sold, rented or shared with advertisers. There are no third-party trackers on this site.
- Country and region are both optional, shown only as part of a participation count, and you can withdraw either instantly.
- Ask us to delete your account and we do it, within thirty days, without asking why.
Who we are
Save The Vaquita Week is organized by Kasey Snow, with support from the Porpoise Conservation Society and the BC Marine Mammal Rescue Society, both in Canada. PCS is the data controller for this site. Contact details are on the contact page and in the footer of every email we send.
What we collect
Only what a volunteer event needs. Some of it comes from you, some from the platform you sign in with, and none of it from data brokers.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Handle, avatar, channel ID | So your sessions can appear under your name and be verified as yours | While your account exists |
| Email address | Approval, session reminders, ambassador notifications | While your account exists |
| Application answers | Read once by an organizer to confirm your account | Two years, then deleted |
| Country and region, if you give them | Counted toward the participation map | Until you withdraw it — instant |
| Session and recording links | The public schedule and the archive | Indefinitely, because the archive depends on it |
What we collect, why, and how long we keep it.
How long we keep it
Set out row by row above. Two rules behind it: application answers go after two years because their only job is a one-time decision, and published schedule data stays because the archive depends on it.
Platform sign-in
Signing in with Twitch, YouTube or TikTok tells us that you control that channel. We request the narrowest scope each platform offers: your public identity.
We cannot post as you, read your messages, or see your email contacts. You can disconnect a platform from your linked accounts page at any time; your sessions stay.
Transactional email (approvals, reminders and ambassador notifications) comes with your account and is how the event functions. The supporter mailing list is entirely separate, opt-in, never pre-ticked, and unsubscribes in one click without signing in.
Your choices
You can see everything we hold, correct it, export it, or delete the account outright from your settings. Deletion removes your profile, application answers and email; published sessions in past archives are anonymised rather than removed, because the totals for that year would otherwise be wrong.
Withdrawing your country or region from the map is immediate and needs no confirmation from us.
Children
Participation requires you to be 13 or older, confirmed at application. We don't knowingly hold data on anyone younger; if you tell us we have, we delete it that week. We ask under-18s not to share anything else that identifies where they live. Location is optional for everyone, and the participation map only ever shows counts, never an individual.
Security
Encrypted in transit and at rest, access limited to the handful of organizers who need it, and no card data anywhere, since nothing on vaquita.mx takes payments. Donations go through give.porpoise.org, the Porpoise Conservation Society's own giving site. Security contact is on the contact page.
Changes
If we change something that matters, we say so at the top of this page and email anyone affected. We change the last-updated date above every time we edit this page.
