Join the people standing up for the vaquita.
Supporters get about six emails a year. Streamer and ambassador sign-ups are closed for this year.
Anyone, anywhere
Become a supporter
We’ll write about six times a year, when there’s vaquita news worth knowing or a petition or letter that needs names, and again when the next event week’s dates are set.
If you stream
Stream a session
Stream whatever you already stream, at a time that suits you. We ask you to mention the vaquita and put the donation link in chat.
Registration is closed for this year.
No channel needed
Be an ambassador
Be the friendly vaquita guide in a streamer’s chat during their session, answering viewers’ questions so the streamer can keep drawing or playing.
Registration is closed for this year.

Participation rules
Who can take part, and what we ask of you
Any size is fine. There’s no follower minimum.
Stream what you normally stream, at a time you pick. All we ask is that you talk about the vaquita at some point and put the donation link somewhere your chat can find it.
- A session is the part of your broadcast that counts toward the event, so it can be shorter than the whole stream.
- Any length works, from one hour to eight.
- Fundraising is optional.
Anyone 13 or older with a channel on Twitch, YouTube or TikTok, streaming content that isn’t hateful and doesn’t break your platform’s own rules. If you’re under 18, don’t share anything that identifies where you live.
We aim to reply within a few days. Once you’re confirmed, you can book, move and cancel your own sessions whenever you like.
Just cancel the session and let us know. Anyone who signed up to help in your chat hears about it and is offered other sessions that day, so nobody ends up waiting in an empty channel.
No. We don’t restream anything and we don’t touch your video. We send people to your channel on your own platform.
The short version
- Any size of channel.
- 13 or older.
- Any content that isn’t hateful or against your platform’s rules.
- A session can be one hour or eight.
- Fundraising is optional.
- If you need to cancel, just let us know.
Code of conduct
Be kind, and be careful who you blame.
The short version
- Criticize policy, enforcement and the illegal totoaba trade, but never a community or a nationality.
- No harassment, slurs or dogpiling, in your chat or anyone else’s.
- Don’t post graphic imagery of dead animals to make a point.
- Don’t claim numbers we haven’t published. If you’re unsure, the briefing pack has the current figures.
- If something goes wrong in your chat, tell an organizer so we can help.
The vaquita is dying in nets set mostly for totoaba by illegal operations serving an overseas market, in a region where legal fishing livelihoods have been shrinking for years. Blaming “Mexican fishermen” is wrong, and it backfires, because it gives the trade cover and turns the people best placed to help into enemies. Criticize the trade, the enforcement, and the policy.
You set the rules in your own chat. Any ambassador helping in your session is asked to follow your rules while they’re there. If someone in chat is being abusive about the event, the animal or a person, moderate it the way you’d moderate anything else.
Population figures for this species are contested and change between surveys. The figures in the briefing pack come from published surveys, each with its year and method. Please use those rather than a number you saw on social media, including any we’ve published before.
Email the organizers and we’ll help. Reporting something will never get you in trouble or quietly dropped from the event. If anyone is declined or removed, that’s the organizers’ decision, and we never tell that person who made the report.
